When you think about wedding planning or even just attending a wedding, you probably picture a big white frosted cake, stacked high with flowers or designed like something you screenshotted on Pinterest in 2015. But have you ever stopped to wonder why do we even have a wedding cakes? Where did that tradition come from? And who’s still saving the top- tier for their baby’s christening?

Let’s look at what’s trending in 2025 and get real honest: do we even need a cake?

Let’s slice into it (sorry, had to).

<img fetchpriority="high" decoding="async" width="683" height="1024" class="wp-image-3382 aligncenter" src="https://hannahroseweddings.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2025/04/Copy-of-LAURENDITIE359-683x1024.jpg" alt="White Wedding cake, with gold foil.

Why Do We Have Wedding Cakes Anyway?

Wedding cakes have been a thing for a very long time. Back to Ancient Rome, instead of cutting a cake, they’d break a loaf of barley bread over the bride’s head for luck. Romantic, right? Nothing says true love like a carb-based concussion.

Then in Medieval times, people would stack pastries into a tower, very me, and if the couple could kiss over it without knocking it down, it was said to bring good fortune! A high-stakes pastry Jenga, you could say!

Fast forward to royalty and the upper classes, who went all in on tiered, sugar-loaded, flamboyant cakes displaying a sign of wealth and fortune. And now? We still love a good tradition, and cake is definitely one of them! Whether it’s fancy, low key or gluten-free, you’re pretty much guaranteed cake at a wedding.

<img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="683" height="1024" class="wp-image-3383 aligncenter" src="https://hannahroseweddings.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2025/04/Copy-of-JRP_EM_1574-683x1024.jpg" alt="Doughnut Tower, wedding.
Why Cakes Are Still a Big Deal?

There’s just something about a wedding cake that just makes it feel official. Even if you’re not big on sweets, the act of cutting the cake together is kind of iconic. It’s a part of the day, and it’s symbolic of your first “task” as a married couple, and let’s be honest, it’s the tastiest one. .

Historically, cakes were linked to fertility and prosperity. The white icing was once a status symbol because refined sugar was expensive. Today it’s more about celebration, tradition, and that one part of the night where everyone gathers around, phones out, waiting for you to stab a cake with a giant knife. Beautiful.

<img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="1024" height="679" class="wp-image-3384 aligncenter" src="https://hannahroseweddings.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2025/04/Copy-of-AbiCharlie-FILM-6-1024x679.jpg" alt="Bride and Groom, Cake Cutting, Wedding.
Wedding Cake Trends We’re Loving In 2025

This year is full of beautiful cake inspiration, and we are loving what we are seeing.

Pressed flowers and botanical designs are still in, made with edible petals pressed into buttercream to create a soft, romantic garden vibe..

Big (and we mean big), bold single tier cakes, topped with fresh fruit, are making a serious statement, and they look especially dramatic when cut with a sword..

Mini, one per guest cakes these are really cute and so easy to serve, especially if using your cake as dessert (more on that in a bit).

Flavour-wise, we’re seeing lots of couples branching out. Pistachio and rose, chai spice, lemon and lavender are all having a moment. Of course, red velvet and chocolate are still firm favourites, but it’s great to see people getting more adventurous.

Sustainability is also key. Couples are opting for local ingredients, minimal waste, and choosing to work with bakeries that take an eco-friendly approach.

And best of all, we’re seeing a rise in inclusive baking. That means cakes without eggs, butter or gluten, that still taste amazing and look absolutely stunning. Guests with dietary requirements don’t have to miss out, and nothing has to be hidden away “out the back” anymore.

<img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="683" height="1024" class="wp-image-3387 aligncenter" src="https://hannahroseweddings.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2025/04/Copy-of-radikaandash-0925-683x1024.jpg" alt="Bride and Groom, cake cutting with sword.
Fineshades Studios

But What If You Don’t Want a Big Cake?

Honestly, you’re not alone. More and more couples are skipping the traditional tiered cake and choosing something that feels more personal to them.

Doughnuts are having a serious moment. Whether displayed on a wall or stacked in towers, they’re fun, tasty, and super easy to serve.

Cupcakes continue to be a classic choice. They’re cute, completely customisable with flavours and decorations, and can be styled to look just as striking as a traditional cake.

Macarons are another favourite. A pyramid of perfectly coloured macarons is both beautiful and delicious—and they photograph like a dream.

One option we can’t get enough of is the dessert grazing table. Think macarons, mini cakes, cake pops, chocolate covered pretzels and all the sweet treats you can imagine. It’s a real showstopper and gives your guests plenty of variety.

Not a fan of sweets at all? That’s fine too. Enter the pork pie tower. It’s hearty, savoury, and especially brilliant for the evening food. Add some chutneys and cheese on the side and you’ve got a winning combo.

Whatever you go for, the idea is the same: something sweet (or savoury!) that reflects your vibe.

<img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="1024" height="683" class="wp-image-3389 aligncenter" src="https://hannahroseweddings.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2025/04/Copy-of-55-991A0260-1024x683.jpg" alt="Blue Macaron, wedding favour.
Dan Shoots Weddings

Making the Cake the Main Dessert

A really smart trend we’re seeing is using the wedding cake as the main dessert. It makes so much sense, both logistically and financially.

By serving the cake as dessert, you can cut it at the start of the meal while all your guests are seated and paying attention. It also means you can skip the cost of a separate dessert course altogether.

Guests are much more likely to eat the cake when it’s served as part of the meal, and you can elevate it with beautiful plating. Add some berries, a drizzle of coulis or a fancy sweet sauce, and you’ve got something that feels special.

Plus, it puts the cake in the spotlight it deserves, not just wheeled out during the awkward post-speech lull.

Agnes Black

Or… Maybe No Cake At All?

Here’s the truth. You absolutely do not need to have a cake. If it doesn’t feel like your thing, skip it. No big deal

Choosing to eliminate the cake gives you room in the budget for other things, maybe a few extra cocktails, live music, or something fabulous for the honeymoon. It also removes the pressure of making yet another decision in the planning process.

And if you still want to offer guests a treat, just do it your way. A surprise round of espresso martinis during dancing? A late-night s’mores bar? All brilliant options.

<img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="1024" height="819" class="wp-image-3393 aligncenter" src="https://hannahroseweddings.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2025/04/Copy-of-BM-LISAJANEPHOTO-1411-1-1024x819.jpg" alt="Espresso Martinis, Bride & Groom.
Lisa Jane Photography

Final Thoughts (or the Last Bite)

Wedding cakes have come a long way since Roman bread-smashing and medieval pastry towers. Whether you go classic tiered, totally alternative, or skip it altogether, your wedding day should reflect you.

Sweet, simple, full of flavour. Just like love, really. So, go ahead. Eat cake, or cheese, or doughnuts. Or nothing at all. And enjoy every second of it.

On a beautiful spring Saturday, M&P celebrated their love with a Bridgerton themed wedding, which was of course, nothing short of spectacular! This beautiful day seamlessly blended timeless elegance with thoughtful, personal touches, all set against the incredible backdrop of Stowe School, a Grade I-listed country house in Buckinghamshire. From a sentimental church ceremony to a Bridgerton-inspired wedding reception filled with grandeur, I’m here to tell you all about every moment of the day, which was infused with charm and sophistication.

Not sure where to start with your wedding planning? Read How To Start Wedding Planning, The Ultimate Guide

A Ceremony Steeped in Family Tradition

The day began at Cottisford Church, a place with deep family ties for the bride. Nestled in her parents’ village, this charming church had witnessed generations of family weddings, including those of her parents and grandparents. It was the perfect setting for the couple to start their married life together.

The intimate ceremony featured traditional elements, three heartfelt readings, and beautiful music from an organist. The bride’s arrival was a highlight in itself—she travelled in a pale blue ribbon-adorned Rolls Royce, accompanied by her dad. After exchanging vows, the newlyweds stepped outside to a shower of confetti and paused under the picturesque gate archway for a traditional family photograph!

Drinks Reception in the North Hall

Following the ceremony, guests made their way to the stunning Stowe School for the drink’s reception in the North Hall. With its grand architecture and elegant decor, the hall perfectly matched the couples Bridgerton wedding theme. Guests were welcomed with glasses of prosecco and an assortment of Portfolio Events’ house canapés, while a string quartet played modern tunes, (including the bride’s favourite – Taylor Swift!) creating an air of sophistication, and very in keeping with the theme.

Adding to the charm was Lauren Marie Studio, a live painter who captured pictures of the guests attending, and painted them onto a postcard. This thoughtful touch not only entertained guests but also provided each guest with a stunning keepsake. This worked instead of a favour on the table.

A Grand Reception in the Marble Hall

As guests moved into the Marble Hall for the wedding breakfast, they were greeted by a scene of grand Bridgerton elegance which really wowed everyone who entered! The room was decorated in a powder blue and white colour palette, reflecting the couple’s theme. Sky-blue tablecloths, paired beautifully with patterned charger plates and goblets, while Bloomfields Flowers elevated the space with towering floral centrepieces and delicate bud vases, incorporating a splash of peach tones within the blue hydrangeas.

The tables were meticulously set, featuring personalised menus, and a blue macaron favour at each place setting. The attention to detail created an inviting and luxurious atmosphere.

Culinary Delights Fit for Royalty

When it came to the food, the couple ensured their guests enjoyed a culinary experience as grand as their Bridgerton-inspired wedding celebration. Portfolio Events delivered a carefully curated choice menu, starting with an array of elegant starters: chicken liver parfait, roasted goat cheese and cherry tomato, or smoked salmon mousse.

For the main course, guests had the option of tender feather blade beef accompanied by horseradish mash, chicken supreme with creamy dauphinoise potato, or a beautifully prepared roasted butternut squash risotto. The meal concluded with indulgent desserts: a classic sticky toffee pudding (my favourite!) or a rich chocolate brownie. Which would you choose?!

The cake table was another showstopper. At the centre was a simple fondant cake adorned with intricate sugar flowers, with the top tier cleverly crafted as a false layer. Surrounding the main cake was an array of mini cakes and desserts, styled to complement the couple’s theme, with some floral arrangements from the church, repurposed to create a stunning, impactful display.

Evening Elegance in the Temple Room

As the sun set, the festivities continued in the Temple Room, where the evening reception brought a lively yet intimate vibe. The White Rooms Band took to the stage for two high-energy sets, while a DJ kept the dance floor buzzing between performances. The couple chose Elvis Presley’s Can’t Help Falling in Love for their first dance, sharing this magical moment before inviting guests to join them on the floor for their second dance to Burning Love. Choosing a second dance is a great way of making sure the dancefloor is busy from the very beginning, as you know what your guests are going to want to hear!

For evening snacks, guests were treated to bacon baps, ensuring everyone had the energy to keep dancing well into the night. Guests were invited to buy the couple’s signature drinks: whisky and coke for the groom and gin and tonic for the bride. These small, personal touches added an extra layer of personalisation to the celebration.

Unique Touches and Memorable Moments

From start to finish, this Bridgerton inspired wedding was filled with thoughtful details that made the day truly special. Some of the most memorable moments for me included:

Traditional Family Photo: Displaying wedding photos from family members at the church gates created a touching homage to their legacy of love.

One of the most important parts of wedding planning to some many couples – the aesthetic! When it comes to choosing your wedding colour palette, it can sometimes feel like an overwhelming decision. You log into Pinterest and see a crazy number of different ideas, and keep changing your mind – sound familiar?! The colours you select set the tone for your entire celebration, influencing everything from décor to attire and even floral arrangements.

For 2025, Pantone has named Mocha Mousse as its Colour of the Year — a rich, warm brown that brings sophistication, comfort, and versatility, and I am absolutely loving it! There are so many ways you can use it! Whether your wedding is modern, rustic, or vintage-inspired, this hue has something to offer. I mean, guys, Mrs Hinch grey is so out now! Today, I’m sharing ten wedding colour scheme ideas featuring Mocha Mousse to inspire your planning journey.

1. Mocha Mousse and Blush Pink: Romantic and lush

Blush pink has been a popular colour palette for many years now. It is a timeless colour! So let’s bring it into 2025. Imagine pairing Mocha Mousse with soft blush pinks for a romantic and modern look. Think warm mocha-toned bridesmaid dresses, blush pink toned table linens, and lush floral arrangements of roses and peonies. This combination brings warmth and softness to your wedding day, perfect for spring or summer celebrations.

2. Mocha Mousse and Sage Green: timeless and chic

Another timeless colour that has been popular for years – sage green! Sage green was about in wedding palettes before people evening started thinking about forest and olive greens at weddings! If you’re envisioning an outdoor wedding or one with a nature-inspired vibe, look no further than Mocha Mousse and sage green. These earthy tones complement each other beautifully, creating a serene and grounded aesthetic. Think eucalyptus garlands, sage-green bridesmaid dresses, and a touch of mocha elements that enhance the palette, and give sage green a new lease of life.

3. Mocha Mousse and Burnt Orange: Autumnal and warm

For an autumn wedding that feels warm and inviting, combine Mocha Mousse with burnt orange. This duo creates a bold yet harmonious palette that’s perfect for rustic barns or outdoor venues. Burnt orangery really started to make its way into the wedding scene a few years back, when barn venues became particularly popular, and we absolutely love it! Team is with rustic wooden tables and chairs, and this colour palette will look incredible!

4. Mocha Mousse and Burgundy: Luxe and Dramatic

Burgundy is the perfect partner for Mocha Mousse if you’re dreaming of a wedding full of depth and sophistication. The richness of these hues works beautifully in formal settings, such as stately homes and castle wedding venues. Burgundy is another timeless classic, and looks particularly beautiful in winter months. Think deep burgundy roses, mocha table runners, and gold accents for an opulent finish.

5. Mocha Mousse and Champagne Beige: Understated and glamourous

For a minimalist yet luxurious wedding colour palette, pair Pantone’s colour of the year 2025 Mocha Mousse with champagne beige. This neutral duo creates a clean and sophisticated look, perfect for modern weddings. Use champagne for bridesmaid dresses and Mocha Mousse for statement floral pieces and in your linen. For your metallics, add a champagne gold. White/gold stemmed cutlery would match this tablespace incredibly well.

6. Mocha Mousse and Coral: Bold and Beautiful

For couples who love a pop of colour, coral can elevate mocha mousse to create a lively and dynamic palette. Coral florals, paired with mocha linens and decor, bring energy and vibrancy to the celebration. This combination works especially well for summer weddings with outdoor receptions. Coral is so versatile, and you can get such a beautiful array of flowers in this colour. Also pairs beautifully with peach. Add a touch of class with your gold cutlery and gold rimmed glasses, and you’re away!

7. Mocha Mousse and Olive: Organic and Elegant

Olive and mocha mousse together feel effortlessly natural, making them an excellent choice for couples drawn to organic aesthetics. Think lush greenery, moss-covered centrepieces, and mocha accents in your tableware. Greens have become so popular in wedding colour schemes, and are definitely here to stay! Velvet materials and bows also work really well with this aesthetic!

8. Mocha Mousse and Barbie Pink: Girly And Bold

For couples who want to make a bold and playful statement, mocha mousse paired with Barbie pink creates a fun and eye-catching palette. This combination is perfect for summer weddings or couples looking to add a touch of fun energy to their day. Think bright pink florals, pink bridesmaid dresses, and mocha-toned accents in tableware or signage. This palette brings a girly, vibrant energy to your wedding, ensuring it’s as unforgettable as it is stylish. And of course….Barbie will never go out of fashion!

How to Incorporate Your Colour Scheme

Once you’ve chosen your palette, it’s time to bring it to life. Start by considering the key elements of your wedding:

Stationery: Invitations and save-the-dates are great places to showcase your colour scheme before the day, to give guests an idea of what is to come. On the day stationery really helps with the aesthetic on the day, including individual menus, place cards and signage

Flowers: Work with your florist to incorporate your colours into bouquets, centrepieces, and installations. Send your chosen mood board to them for inspiration and find out what flowers work in this wedding colour palette.

Attire: From bridesmaid dresses to groomsmen’s accessories, attire is an easy way to highlight your palette.

Décor: Think table linens and candles to really bring your wedding colour palette to life.

Details: Don’t forget about the small touches, like cake design, your food choices, plate design, signature cocktails, and signage.

It’s neutral enough to pair with almost any colour yet bold enough to make a statement on its own. Its warmth and richness make it particularly well-suited to creating intimate and welcoming atmospheres.

A&H met at work, and yep, they’re still working together today! If that’s not the ultimate team, I don’t know what is. The groom brings a blend of French and Mexican charm, while the bride is your quintessential, beautiful, British bride with a love for timeless elegance. Together, they’re just… wow. They’re also big travellers, so you can imagine how much thought they put into creating a day that was uniquely theirs.

london calling: the venues

This wedding was the perfect mix of iconic London elegance and vibrant Mexican flair. The ceremony was held at The Oratory on Brompton Road—a stunning neo-baroque church that’s as grand as it sounds. It was the perfect spot for a classic and heartfelt ceremony.

After the “I dos,” everyone hopped over to The Orangery at Kensington Palace for the remainder of the wedding day. If you haven’t been, picture soaring ceilings, beautiful gardens, and that quintessential London charm. Nothing says London more than a wedding at Kensington Palace! The Orangery gave us all the grandeur we needed, while also being the perfect canvas with its white was floors and walls for some colourful, personal touches.

Mixing Cultures, Making Magic

Let’s talk about what made this wedding so unique. Antoine and Holly wanted to celebrate their heritage in a way that felt fun and natural, so we blended British elegance with Mexican flair—and wow, did it work.

The colour palette was pastel pinks, peaches, and whites—soft, clean, and perfect for The Orangery. But then we threw in those Mexican vibes through the details: bright accents, tables named after Aztec gods (how cool is that?), and Talavera-inspired stationery that tied everything together.

The best part? A mariachi band! Yep, a full-on mariachi band to lead the guests from the church to the iconic red double-decker buses. They played their hearts out while guests sipped champagne and tried tequila and mezcal—because why not start the party on the bus?

Food, drinks and all the fun stuff

Antoine and Holly are big foodies, so the menu was a huge deal. We worked with Jimmy Garcia Catering to create a feast that brought together the best of both worlds—think French wines, Mexican tequila, mezcal, and a menu full of flavours such as tostadas for starters, and a beautiful French Croquembouche, which was cut before the meal and served for dessert. The menu, of course, got everyone talking!

Another standout detail was the drink menu signage. It wasn’t just “Here’s your wine and tequila”; it was “Here’s why we’ve chosen these drinks and what makes them special.” Guests loved it, and it added such a personal touch to the day.

And can we talk about the after-party? It was at a local club and featured a piñata—because what’s a party without a little smash-and-grab fun? It was playful, festive, and the perfect way to keep the energy going until 3am!

fashion that wowed

Holly looked absolutely stunning in her Caroline Castigliano gown. It was elegant, timeless, and just so her. The talented team at Team Glam Bridal worked their magic on her hair and makeup, and she was positively glowing all day.

Antoine, not to be outdone, looked dapper in a tailored suit that brought a touch of French sophistication to the mix.

Holly opted to not have a bridal party, just her sister as Maid of Honour, which kept it simple and very much calm during the morning of the wedding!

The challenges (because it’s London)

Of course, it wouldn’t be a London wedding without a few hiccups. On the morning of the wedding, protests and road closures threatened to make the bride’s journey to the church a bit of an adventure. But hey, I love a challenge, and we got Holly there on time (and stress-free, might I add).

It’s moments like this where you realise how important it is to have people in your corner who can think on their feet. Wedding planning isn’t just about pretty flowers and timelines—it’s about making sure the day runs smoothly, no matter what London throws at you!

a day to remember

The whole day was filled with so much love, laughter, and energy. The mariachi band, the heartfelt speeches, the incredible food and drink—it all came together to create a celebration that felt so personal to Antoine and Holly.

One of my favourite moments? Watching the guests light up as the mariachi band played on the buses. It was such a fun, unexpected touch, and it perfectly captured the joyful spirit of the day. So many people were stopping in the street to watch, which is a rarity in London!

Why I loved this wedding

As a planner, you always hope to create a day that feels just right for the couple, and this wedding was exactly that. Antoine and Holly trusted me to bring their vision to life for their wedding at Kensington Palace, and it was such an honour to be part of their journey. From the vibrant decor to the delicious drinks and that unforgettable mariachi band, this wedding was pure magic from start to finish.

Antoine and Holly, thank you for letting me be part of your day. Your love and energy were infectious, and I know your guests left with memories they’ll cherish forever.

Wedding stationery is one of those on the list that get couples wondering what they really need and why they need it. Questions around stationery is one of the most frequent questions I get asked, and is also an area where couples can go wrong. Whether you decide to DIY with your wedding stationery, or hire a stationer (this is what we highly recommend to avoid wasting time, energy, and stress levels with margins and paper sizes!) I am here to help you decide what you really need for your day!

Save the dates

Once you’ve locked in that venue, your first step in your wedding stationery journey is those all-important save the dates! You don’t need anything other than the information of the date and location, so guests can start to book time off of work, or book flights if they need to fly in for your day. There are so many different variations you can get nowadays, from a standard card, to fridge magnets, keyrings, puzzles….you name it, we’ve seen it!

Invitations

Next up for your wedding stationery is those all important wedding invitations! I always advise to send these out 4-6 months prior, and if this is due in December, for example if you have an April-June wedding, to avoid sending end of November/December as they get mixed up with the Christmas cards and lost! People are also far more excited for a wedding invitation in January as it’s something to look forward to during a pretty dreary month!

There are a couple of ways now that you can send your wedding invitations which I am going to discuss with you:

Hard copy wedding invitation with inserts:

This is a pretty traditional when it comes to your wedding stationery. You have the main invitation card, then inserts alongside it, detailing information such as menu, accommodation options, gift list, then a separate insert for RSVP which they can then post back to you. You can then seal these all together with a wax seal or belly band, or opt for a folder invitation with the inserts inside. There is so much you can opt for with this option, from personalised monograms, to gold and silver foiling. You can even get hand drawn images of your venue or maybe something more personal such as your pet! You can match your wedding stationery to the theme of your day, using colours and fonts to really give people the idea of how your wedding day will look and feel.

Pros:

They look stunning and set the theme and aesthetic for the day!

They can be easier for some guests to understand

Cons:

People are slower at RSVPing and may just pop you a text for example instead of using the wedding RSVP insert card

Cost to print is much higher

The inserts make the envelope thicker which costs more to post

Getting them out to guests can be tricky, especially if abroad

Hard copy wedding invitation with wedding website:

This is probably the most popular option I see now! Many couples opt for an A5 size card, which then has a QR code or a typed link for people to access a wedding website, where guests can see all of the information that you would add onto the insert cards, but instead it’s virtual. You can still have all the beautiful embellishments we discussed in the above, just that you don’t have to order as many inserts! With a wedding website, you can also set it so you have a certain guest list for day guests and another for evening guests (for example) so they only see the information required for them, for example, timings, or menu requirements.

Pros:

It’s 2024 – who wants to go to a post box to post back their RSVP?! Where even is a post box?

People tend to RSVP pretty instantly once it’s been received

There is no worry of people losing their invitations or insert cards with the information you need

Less cost to budget for

Cons:

You may have some people in your wedding party, such as grandparents, who wouldn’t understand how to work the wedding website and would appreciate a hard copy more – in this instance, you can get a few hard copies printed for RSVP/information etc

People may lose the link – ask them to bookmark it!

Guests may not read it properly and just assume you know they are coming, then never go onto the link to read important information

Virtual Wedding Invites:

Going completely virtual is now an option for your wedding stationery! You can use websites such as Paperless Post and Greenvelope to send your invitation to your guests. You can design the invitation (there are also many, many templates) and personalise the colour of the envelope, add wax melts and even music! You can then receive RSVP directly via these websites, or you can create a wedding website on sites such as WithJoy, with a link on your virtual invite which guests can click on to take you directly to the site to RSVP and find out more information.

Pros/Cons:

The pros and cons are pretty much the same as having a hard copy wedding invitation alongside a website, although I would say that it may be more difficult to use a hard copy invitation. The pros of a virtual invitation are that they can click directly onto a link

Some people may not have email addresses but you can send them a hard copy

Some couples worry if people don’t receive the email, but both sites mentioned show when the guest has received/opened their email

John Nassari Photography

When should we ask wedding guests to RSVP by?

I always advise to ask for RSVP 8-10 weeks prior to the day (depending when you send them) Your caterers/venue/stationers etc will generally need all information 6 weeks prior, so this gives you 2-4 weeks to chase up any last minute RSVPers and collate the information to send.

What information is needed on the wedding invitation or wedding website?

Basics: Venue, map of location or directions, postcode of what3words if it is a remote location, date

Order of day: Always put the time guests need to arrive by, and not the time of the ceremony, to avoid latecomers! You can also add a list of the timings for the remainder of the day. For a wedding website, have the evening guests arrive time, and hide the previous timings of the day for them (this is simple to do!)

When to RSVP by: as advised above

FAQs: What shoes to wear, who to call if any problems on the day (ie. not you!! This should be your wedding planner/co-ordinator) whether they can bring a plus one, if children are allowed etc

Accommodation: Information of local accommodation available and how they can book

Transport links: For anyone flying in or travelling from another part of the UK

Menu: Make sure to book in your menu tasting before sending your invites. If this isn’t possible, add a ‘coming soon’.

Gift list: You can either just add a poem or a few lines about gifting money towards the honeymoon (very popular nowadays!) or you can use a gift list website such as Prezola – I also love the function on this website where you can set up lists of excursions etc so people can ‘buy’ that excursion for you, or pay for you to have dinner one night for example, but actually the money just goes into a pot for you.

Information of any other events: Welcome drinks, post wedding brunches etc

Little extras you can add: Information of who is in your bridal party, how you met and photos of you as a couple, a suggestion for songs for the evening party.

What questions should we ask in the RSVP?

Whether they are attending the wedding: a simple yes or no! You can also add for them to leave a note if they cannot attend

Dietary requirements: highly important! The caterer will need this information

Menu choices: If you are opting for a choice menu (discuss with your caterer first!) then you will need to ask your guests for their choices during the RSVP process. If you haven’t locked in your final menu specification before sending invites, at a minimum have: chicken/fish/vegetarian for them to then give their preference. In this instance, I would keep the starter and the dessert the same for everyone. Also remember to have an option for a child’s menu if you are having children!

Extra events: Ask if they will be attending X, have a separate question for each additional event

Will they be bringing a plus 1: If this is an option for you

Email address: Always good to have if contact is required to all guests, ie. plans change

Other: Suggestion for a song for the evening party, advice for the happy couple etc

2024 Bride and Grooms to be, what are the wedding trends we are seeing?! It’s here….the wedding trends that we are seeing whilst planning your beautiful wedding days, and whilst speaking with our fellow wedding suppliers. So what seems to be popular and what can you incorporate into your wedding planning, whether it’s for 2024 or even 2025?! We have 15 wedding trends we are loving for 2024.

Unsure what options are available to you for your ceremony? Read more here: Wedding Ceremony Options In The UK

Patterned and Coloured Tablecloths

I’ve always been a big fan of both coloured and patterned linen, and now they are being requested more than ever! Linens can really help pull your colour schemes together, whether you are looking for a dark and moody vibe or a brighter, lighter palette. Patterned tablecloths are great to use if you want to use minimal décor, as you don’t need to add much more to the tables once these are laid. We are a huge fan of Maison Margaux patterned linen, which you can see below!

Candle tubes

These are definitely becoming all the rage! They are a great addition to your wedding décor, especially great if your venue has stipulated that you can’t have an open flame, as well as looking stunning, and adding a very contemporary look to your day. Either style them alongside a floral centrepiece or have them as a centrepiece of their own!

silver

Is gold on the way out? Silver is making a comeback! Last year, I was still being asked for gold everything, from charger plates and rimmed glasses, to cutlery and candle holders, and while I still love the gold, I equally love silver and think it can really work with certain colour palettes, especially teamed up with beautiful glassware, vases and candle holders. It works especially well with green tones, which are also very popular right now!

TV Show Inspiration

Is your favourite TV show influencing our wedding choices? That would be a yes! From Georgian wedding venues, personalised wax seals and string quartets playing during ceremonies and drink receptions, we are seeing more of a beautiful blend of TV Shows such as The Crown and Bridgerton helping to set the tone!

Mixed Colours

We are especially seeing this within bridesmaids dresses and just within the wedding decor colour palette in general. From different tones of one colour and use of different primary colours, to wild flowers which incorporate all different colours. Many couples are opting for an ‘ombre’ bridesmaid dress effect, where the dresses go from dark to light for each bridesmaid, or going for completely different colours! For example, if you are having a pastel colour palette, every bridesmaid would be in a different colour from the palette. We are loving this option so had to add it to our 2024 wedding trends list!

Marquee & Outdoor Weddings

Outdoor weddings became increasingly popular after covid, as people were keen for their wedding to abide by the rules and for guests to be able to keep their distance. But we have seen this trend continue, with many couples seeing the benefits of being outdoors, within a blank canvas structure which you can then make your own.

Timi Oshin Studios, DJ Marquees

Larger Numbers

Only back in 2022, we saw a trend of people opting for smaller celebrations after seeing and loving the stories of small, intimate celebrations in 2020 and 2021. We are now seeing the opposite, bigger parties, larger marquees and venues, and many couples not having separate evening guests, but having everyone for the full day. Our couples are definitely not cutting back on their guest list!

Weekend Celebrations

Full weekends are definitely on the rise and are a trend for 2024! From night prior drinks, to post wedding day brunches and celebrations, including BBQs and casual post wedding celebrations. Many of you may be thinking, really?! Something else to plan! But many venues will now offer the full weekend, so you can either all stay over and then ask your caterer to host the following day with something informal, or ask guests to come back the following day. It’s such a great opportunity to relax, extend those celebrations, and not have to feel like everything is rushed into one day, especially if guests have had to travel for your big day.

Autumn & Winter Weddings

I feel like Autumn and Winter weddings are really starting to become some of my favourites! Gone are the days when we had a wedding ‘season’, we are finding we have dates booked throughout the year – which is great! The perfect part of the autumn/winter 2024 wedding trend is the candlelight, which really adds the ambience to your day, and looks spectacular at this time of year as once you sit down for your wedding breakfast, the lighting is generally darker, which really makes the room look stunning! There is also so much less pressure weather wise, as you generally expect it to be bad weather, so a good weather day is a bonus!

Elizabeth Jane Wedding Photography

Long Banqueting Tables

Long tables or banqueting tables are definitely becoming more popular over the years, and we are seeing a lot of our couples requesting them, hence them being one of our 2024 wedding trends! There are pros and cons to both long tables and rounds – just make sure if you are having long tables, you make sure that you don’t overdo it with the decor as you will have minimal space between place settings. Also, make sure you have a co-ordinator on the day to make sure those chairs are in line for your photos! Trust me, you will spot that slightly out of line chair!

Informal Dining

Not having a sit down meal is definitely becoming a bigger trend for 2024. Many couples are moving away from the sit down meal, having informal tables and options such as a BBQ or different food stations. Many are still opting for a sit down, but with more sharing style food to the tables, including ‘host a roast’ where you nominate one guest per table to carve the meat!

Joanna Ranson Photography

Celebrant Led Weddings

Many couples are starting to learn through the power of social media that there are other options now for their ceremonies, not just a legal registrar or a religious church service. Although non legal, having a celebrant or one of your friends to conduct your ceremony is so much more personal, and means you can read the words and the vows you want to, at such an important part of the day. You just need to pop over to the registry office before the big day and sign the legal paperwork, which costs minimal. You will need to arrange this and give your notice of marriage first.

Personal Weddings

We are seeing so many personal touches from couples, including stamped pictures of their own cats heads on napkins, fun, choreographed first dances, menus with the couple’s favourite foods, and tables named after the couple’s favourite things to do. The wedding day is all about you, so many sure you add touches of your personality, so your guests think, wow, this is really them! Cat napkins and cardboard cut outs on the dance floor definitely deserve to be a part of our 2024 wedding trends! Couples are deciding what they REALLY want and not just opting for traditions, like cutting a pig or cheese instead of cake!

Cocktail Hours

I mean, cocktails have always been popular – right?! But for 2024, we are definitely seeing couples using an experienced mixologist (vital!) to put on a cocktail hour, mixing their favourite flavours together and naming them something tailored to them, for their guests to enjoy as a popular wedding trend! Yum! You could either have a cocktail hour as part of your drinks reception, or after your wedding breakfast, before the evening party – this is always a good spot to incorporate it in to if you have a bit of down time before the band.

Party Vibes

We are wholeheartedly seeing the party vibes for 2024! From musicians throughout the day, their favourite shot on the couple’s arrival, getting rid of formalities and just generally getting down to the party! Couples are stripping back the formalities of the day to shorten parts, so they can really extend the evening entertainment!

Timi Oshin Studios

Wild Flowers

So many couples are wanting the wild flower wedding trend for 2024, from oversized, loose arrangements, to random colours, and whatever flower you can find during that season. Using wildflowers is great for the environment, as they are accessible in the UK. Allowing your florist to use whichever flowers they feel works best means they don’t have to ship them in from another country. As well as being environmentally friendly, they also look stunning!

Bloomfields Flowers, Photographer – Elizabeth Jane Weddings

It’s kind of a given that we love all things weddings, we also love things all celebrity weddings! Checking out the venues, the flowers and the dresses! So we are here to remind you of our favourite celebrity wedding moments from 2023!

Jamie & Sophie

Let’s start with Hanahh’s absolute favourite celebrity couple; former Made in Chelsea stars Jamie Laing and Sophie Haboo, having only announced their engagement at the end of 2022, just before Christmas.

They kept us updated on all things weddings and wedding mistakes in their ‘Nearlyweds’ podcast! Jamie and Sophie legally wed in a Chelsea registry office in April, Sophie wearing a short Vivienne Westwood wedding dress and then packed all their friends and family off to Marbella for one of the weddings of the year. No expenses spared and a jam-packed celebrity guest list!

Sophie wore a gorgeous long-sleeved lace dress, designed by Emma Beaumont and Jamie was suited in a double-breasted wedding suit and matching shades! The occasion was an elaborate affair, and we are still obsessed with the stunning details, ahem, the flowers.

Georgia & Tommy

Just this month TOWIE star Georgia Kousoulou and Tommy Mallet ended the year “happy, in love and together as husband and wife” in a ceremony at Islington Town Hall, with a further celebration in Spain planned – which we are very excited to see and are following them like a hawk for any details!

Georgia wore a stunning mini dress with a long train and puff sleeves designed by Khirzad Femme, Prada Shoes and carried a simple bouquet of Red roses from Reine Des Fleurs. Whilst Tommy sported a black suit with matching white trainers from himself and their Son Brody – cute, cute cute!

Olly & Amelia

Back in July, Olly Murs and Amelia Tank married in the Blackwater Estuary in Essex during a 3-day celebration! With guests arriving at the venue on Friday night for a barbecue, the ceremony followed on Saturday and wow what a dress! Amelia’s dress by Pallas Couture in Australia had a corset bodice, detachable lace sleeve and covered head to toe in beaded appliques. She also wore a floor-length veil embroidered with “Olly and Amelia” and their wedding date!

The Saturday celebrations ended at midnight, so guests could prepare and recuperate for “Murs Fest” on Sunday! Funfair rides, a McNugget truck and stage performances from Olly, Craig David and DJ Pandora Christie! Outfit details on Sunday though, Amelia wore a Dissh mini dress and chunky black boots, with a Sophie Webster “Wifey for Lifey” Bag and a bespoke hand-painted “Just Married” All Saints leather jacket. Olly has recently announced on Instagram that Baby Murs is due in 2024, congratulations guys!

Sofia & Elliot

Sofia Richie, Lionel Richie’s daughter, & Elliot Grange exchanged vows at Hotel du Cap-Eden-Roc in Antibes, back in April, with a star-studded guest list. Following their engagement in April 2022 in Hawaii, Sofia referred to wedding planning as “a full-time job”! We know Sofia, we know!

Sofia had her dream trio of dresses designed in Paris by Chanel; a rehearsal dinner dress, which took place on Friday night; the ceremony; and one for the after party. Elliot wore a Tom Ford tuxedo for the wedding day and the bridesmaids were all in black, choosing their own dresses – so on trend for 2023!

Sofia and Elliot wed in a traditional Jewish ceremony, having a private legal ceremony with just their parents in the States before flying to France. The ceremony was followed by cocktails, dinner and speeches with Nicole Richie, Sofia’s sister, as MC for the night and father Lionel Richie performing! And then to an after-party, with nightclub-inspired vibes, dancing until 3 am!

Mikayla & Cody

Boston-based Beauty influencer, TikToker Mikayla Nogueira married Cody Hawken in July this year at Castle Hill in Rhode Island, with a guest list including celebrities and TikTokers! “Classic, clean and elegant” they went for a black-and-white aesthetic.

Mikayla wore a Martina Liana ballgown-style dress, with floral accents. Exchanging vows, in a non-traditional ceremony, customised entirely to themselves. They celebrated their nuptials over a multi-day celebration, kicking off with a welcome breakfast and ending with a Fourth of July after-party!

Sia & Dan

May saw Australian singer Sia marry Dan Bernad at the home of Stefano Dolce and Domenico Gabbana, in Portofino, Italy. Also the wedding venue choice of Kourtney Kardashian-Baker and Travis Baker a year prior in May 2022 (Chloe’s celebrity wedding favourite of 2022). Dolce and Gabbana’s home is just a surreal venue.

Being notorious for being a private person, Sia and Dan exchanged vows under an iron gazebo, adorned with pastel flowers in front of just 4 guests. Sia wore a blush pink mermaid-style gown, with a high neckline, cropped sleeve and pearl buttons.

Lady Amelia and Greg

Princess Diana’s niece, Lady Amelia Spencer, wed long-time partner Greg Mallet in a ceremony at Quoin Rock Manor House, South Africa earlier in March. After their engagement in Franschhoek in July 2020, Lady Amelia, who has previously worked as a wedding planner in the past, worked with Anne Mann to create her perfect wedding day!

With Amelia being a model and Brand ambassador, fashion was a high priority for the day, with both Amelia and Greg wearing Versace. The wedding dress was created from custom silk rebrodé lace, with a 2-and-a-half metre train, adorned with Swarovski crystals and intricate flower patterns. Paired with a 5 metre-long veil made from fine silk tulle and Jimmy Choos shoes – the dream wedding shoes!

An afternoon ceremony on the Saturday, followed by sunset cocktail hour and dinner seated in a bespoke glass marquee, filled with twinkling lights and white roses, dubbed “a magical fairy garden”. Amelia changed into a beaded gown by Provonias and the evening continued with a surprise outdoor party on the elevated lawn, partying through to 3am!

Recently engaged and starting to look for ideas and wedding trends for your upcoming 2023 wedding day?

Utilise the Pantone colour of the year trend in your wedding colour scheme

Not something we are seeing much of yet, but with the pantone colour of the year just being confirmed as viva magenta, more of you may be possibly bringing this into your styling and colour palettes. And why not? I absolutely love it, but I am a sucker for deep colour palettes and red tones. Pantone say viva magenta “vibrates with vim and vigor” and is “expressive of a new signal of strength”, so if that is the vibe you are going for, then let’s get a moodboard created for your day!

Check out the colour here!

Top tip – this colour scheme is quite bold, make sure it matches the venue styling, for example, maybe older properties may already use deeper tones in their carpets and upholstery, you don’t want this to clash!

Sharing platter courses are on trend for 2023

Sharing platter courses made a come back after covid, but is definitely one of the wedding trends of 2023. Couples seem to be moving away from the formal 3 course sit down meal. They want to be different. Many couples are completely moving away from formal and opting for a more informal day – BBQ, street food and no formal place settings, but if you want to keep to a more traditional sit down then sharing platters work so well! All guests will still be seated as per your seating plan, but each table will be bought a selection of your menu on boards to share amongst the table. It’s even becoming more popular for a joint of meat to be put on the tables, and a carver nominated by the couple to carve for the guests at that table with an engraved knife and personalised apron!
Top tip – don’t crowd your tables for this option! Go tall and narrow with your centre pieces as you need to be able to fit the boards/bowls etc

Use bigger floral arrangements for your wedding décor

Miki Photography

It seems like bigger is better recently, more statement flowers, and not just for the tables, arches at church entrances, floral backdrops and walkways for ceremonies and floral decorated lounge areas, bringing a wow factor to any space that guests walk into.
Top tip – if opting for tall flower arrangements, use clear vase or a narrow option to avoid blocking people’s view of guests opposite them

Travel for your perfect wedding venue

Travel is back on the cards and bigger than ever. I am seeing more couples coming to England to get married from America and Europe, and couples not being stuck to the one area they live in, but traveling across the UK, maybe even eloping to Wales or Scotland, to find their perfect venue and the best possible location for them, regardless of travel time.
Top tip – when sending out save the dates, pop in a location so guests can start preplanning their trip.

Use neutral tones in your wedding colour scheme

I am seeing a lot of neutral wedding tones this year, as is cake maker Nina from Erzulie Cakes and florist Hayley from Bloomfields. Whether it’s blush pink, a palette of brown and nude hues or creams mixed with green tones, I feel many couples are wanting to bring a relaxed and natural feel to their day.
Top tip – put together a mood board of your ideals before hiring any styling related suppliers

Large wedding cakes are the way forward for 2023

Nina from Erzulie cakes has found that couples, much as with their floral arrangements want to go bigger! They want statement pieces which will wow their guests. Tall cakes also look great if you have a venue with tall ceilings, particularly stately homes tend to have the taller ceilings. A low ceiling with a smaller cake can look deflating, so add in some tiers! Make sure your cake is also displayed somewhere spectacular such as an archway.
Top tip – you can still go big without having mountains of cake, ask for faux tiers

Wedding dessert tables are on trend right now

Much the same as the sharing breakfast courses, many couples are opting for dessert tables either alongside their wedding cake or instead of a wedding cake. These can also be used instead of a dessert – you find a lot of guests will be getting up, going to the bar, chatting etc by the time the dessert comes out and many don’t even sit back down to eat it. A dessert table means guests can enjoy the rest of the evening, while picking at a dessert as they wish! I think we will see a lot of these in 2023!

More wedding entertainment is trending

Wow, entertainment is KEY to a wedding day! A good band, string quartet, solo singer, maybe even a magician! Whatever you decide to have, keep the guests entertained. We saw a lot of saxophonists in 2021, moving into 2023 wedding trends, I think we will see couples mainly having bands suited to their taste in music, with a DJ in-between sets and also live musicians such as drummers, singers, pianists etc, and not just for the evening reception, also for the rest of the day. I’ve also seen a surge in surprise wedding entertainment, such as singing waiters, and think this will continue.

When it comes to your wedding décor, the tables can really make it. And it’s a great opportunity to be creative. I have put together a helpful list of all the elements that make up a wedding table, including the tables themselves!

Most of what you will need will be available for hire either from your chosen venue or provided by your catering company. If, however, you are going with a dry hire venue, and serving something like street food, then you will need to provide some, or all, of the, following yourself.

Furniture

This is an important one! Make sure you check with your venue first and see what they can provide. Do you want round wedding tables or long ones? Whatever you decide, get the measurements! Are you going for something rustic, with wooden tables and picnic hampers? Or do you need linen? This opens further design choices as you can have the tablecloth a different colour to your napkins, adding more range from your chosen palette. If you’re going down this route, I advise contacting your supplier and giving them a rough number for the linen. You can confirm this with them once you have all your RSVPs back.

Charger Plates

Are they necessary? Well, it works well for décor, adds to the ambience, and gives your guests a bit more of a dining experience. But, with your guests in mind, it’s important to think about spacing, as chargers take up a lot more room! So, think about your table plan, then, if you do decide to go with chargers, check with your caterer and table supplier so that they can plan accordingly!

Side Plates

Side platers are mainly used for serving bread before or with a starter so, check with your caterer first as they may not be needed at al, although without a charger, these do make a place setting. If you have decided to have charger plates, you don’t generally need side plates, it can look odd depending on the charger and takes up even more room on your wedding tables.

Cutlery

Another pretty vital part of the table plan. Check with your caterer for what you’ll need by what you’re serving your guests. Cutlery comes in a wide range of colours so there is also the chance of adding those extra little details of décor if you so wish.

Plates

This is fully determined by your table and serving choices. If you’re serving a buffet these will generally be available at the buffet station or already on the tables, the same with sharing platters. If you are having a served meal, then the chef will plate your food and the waiting staff will serve it to you. If you want a particular style of plate, then you may need to hire them and if you decide to opt for chargers, then these sit on top. Discuss everything with your catering team, or your trusted wedding planner!

Glasses

Glasses come in all different styles, so you can match them to your décor. Traditionally you’ll need three – one for red wine, one for white and your champagne flute. One of your wine glasses will normally be a spare, and this is used for your water. Any of your guests using both for wine should be kept an eye on!

Stationery

Table names or numbers, you can really personalise these with your setting or theme. Name cards for your guests so they know where they are sitting when they reach their table (this is invaluable). Even personalised menus can be designed, which look nice on top of the napkin and add an extra layer to your guest’s dining experience. These could also be incorporated into the name card to save on printing costs.

Favours & Centre Pieces

A whole other discussion. For more information on favours, please check out my wedding favours blog and for centrepieces, you can see more in my various centre pieces blog.

John Nassari Photography

Other

Extra decorations like candles are great for atmosphere, especially at an autumn or winter wedding. Trivia cards or a quiz on the bride and groom are a great way for guests to get to know each other and bring each table together.

The most important thing to bear in mind throughout all your decision-making is to please check with your caterers about what is actually going on the table! They can properly and practically advise you on table space and what can and can’t be done. With everyone in the know, there will be fewer surprises and far less stress!

As a wedding planner, I see the seasons change in popularity over the years, but regardless of trends, it is always generally busier for wedding dates to be held in May-September, although there is still a call for winter wedding planning for dates in November – February, and why not?! It’s a beautiful time of year! A regular discussion I have with couples who are looking for a winter date is what wedding flowers will be available? So I have teamed up with four incredible florists to answer that exact question for you!

Ellice from Willow and Blossom

Aimee from Clapham Flowers

Hayley from Bloomfields

Kellie from Twisted Tulip Designs

which flowers are available in winter?

Concerns are normally around if they will still be able to have beautiful wedding flower displays out of the summer season. Ellice confirms there are still so many flower options available for winter weddings. “The British wedding flower season tends to have ended by this point but there are lots of other flowers that florists can source for you. Some popular ones are anemones, ranunculus, brunia, viburnum.”

Ellice of Willow and Blossom, also says that lots of couples will be happy to know that roses are available all year round so can still be used in winter weddings. Hayley from Bloomfields also backs this up by saying “Roses are of course very popular throughout the year but what people don’t always realise is that red and white roses are so popular this time of year that the cost does go up, white avalanche are beautiful, and I recommend a sweet avalanche if you are looking for a pink palette.”

Aimee from Clapham flowers also recommends ilex (holly), hellebores, amaryllis, pussy willow, spruce, skimmia and thistle as flowers available for winter flower installations.

Kellie from Twisted Tulip Designs says “Although not always obvious, winter flowers can provide just as rich a pallet as any other season. Stunning hellebores, delicate Ranunculi and showstopping anemone are among the seasonal selection.”

Another vote for ranunculus from Hayley – “they are big and blousy flowers with papery petals, and they come in beautiful colours, burgundy and reds this time of year but also white, anemones which have lovely thin petals with a dark navy centre, they come in all sorts of colours.”

Aimee and Hayley both recommend an amaryllis as a very popular statement wedding flower if you want a luxury feel.

Hayley suggests anything with berries, such as holly which Aimee also mentioned, brassicas, which are ornamental cabbages and are another popular choice. Hydrangeas and orchids are also beautiful for winter wedding flowers.

Ranunculus

Anemone

What is your favourite flower/foliage to use for a winter wedding?

Ellice loves using Anemones in winter weddings, “they are a unique flower and come in a lot of different colour options. I particularly love the White variety with the black centres. Mix these with Eucalyptus and other silver grey toned foliages like Dusty Miller and you get a really nice wintery look!”

Aimee from Clapham flowers says that her favourites to use are hellebores and asparagus fern.

Kellie loves that there are so many colour combinations to choose from, “you could go for the more tradition green and red, rich jewel-toned colours or deep burgundy and peach to name a few. I love them all, but I do have a soft spot for a bouquet of white and silvery blue hues: large-headed white Ecuadorian roses, Eryngium (thistle), white Anemone with navy centres and Brunia sitting among silvery Eucalyptus and Senecio. There’s something very Narnia about it!”

Hayley says not to overlook a carnation, people aren’t always keen, but “these days they come in such amazing colours, like the moonlight ones which come in a lilac, antique toned ones. In with a selection of other wedding flowers, they work really well although they aren’t to everyone’s taste!”

Helabores, known as the Christmas rose are perfect for winter and ave been mentioned previously so must be a popular one! Hayley is a fan! “They are beautiful and really popular for a more boho look” Also the wax flower! “wax flower is gypsophila more luxury cousin! I try and use this more often than gypsophila now as wax just gives that more luxury feel”

“My favourite to use for a winter wedding flowers has to be anemones, I just think a white anemone in a bouquet, once it’s open is just beautiful; those and hellibores are just lush, they are really winter flowers and not available throughout the rest of the year”

Viburnum

Amaryllis

what flowers are most popular for winter weddings?

Ellice says “the majority of my winter weddings tend to opt for lots of mixed foliage’s and white/neutral toned blooms. Eucalyptus is a popular foliage all year round but looks great when teamed up with different ferns & berries.”

Aimee from Clapham flowers says her couples tend to ask for “white roses , hellebores, fern, wax flower for a winter wedding” so another vote here for hellebores and wax flowers!

Roses remain a firm favourite for winter weddings for Kellie! “As does Lisianthus, which are both available all year round. The wide range of garden roses with an abundance of petals, gorgeous standard roses and fabulous selections of spray roses mean that even an all rose bouquet can be so very far from boring.”

Hayley says “a lot of people tend to go for burgundy, blush and cream.” She tends to find that couples will either go all out traditional Christmas, with holly pines and berries or keep to a more wintery theme of all whites and green – “think lots of eucalyptus!”

top tip for couples planning a winter wedding (flower/decor related):

Ellice recommends not to feel like you have to go for a typically winter/Christmas type of colour scheme like whites or reds. “You can make all sorts of colour schemes have a wintery feel by adding different textures and foliages.”

Aimee’s top tip for all you lovely Christmas couples is to Indulge in some glitter! Why not hey! It is the festive season! I completely agree, especially looking at my current choice of Christmas nails!

Kellie says to think about adding rich textures and elements to your flower choices to provide heaps of interest in your winter bouquets, ceremony and reception flowers. “Consider adding pine cones or twigs if you want to add a bit of tradition. Alternatively, you could go for thistle, heathers, berried foliage like Myrtle or perhaps some snowberries or sumptuous hanging Amaranthus.” Kellie says that whatever you decide, the winter provides the perfect season to think outside the box for your flowers and experiment with combinations.

“I have noticed this year that lilac and white seems to be really popular for December which is different, but I love it!” Hayley says to either go for something classic winter/traditional Christmas, or don’t be afraid to go for something completely different like the lilac.”

Dusty Miller
